Kat is the titular protagonist from the game, Project Kat. She is a teenage high-school girl who is determined to perform a specific ritual, despite the potential risks. She has joined an Occult Club in order to obtain the instructions for the ritual.
Personality[]
Kat's character can change based on the decisions made by the player, but she is shown as an incredibly determined young girl who is passionate about achieving her goals, even at the expense of her own safety. She isn't afraid to take risks, even if it means she can be a bit reckless and stubborn. She tends to ignore advice and warnings that may try to deter her from her mission. In particular, she is fascinated by mysterious rituals and is convinced she must find the answers, no matter the cost. She can also sharp-witted, especially when discussing the supernatural with her "friends" in the Occult Club, earning her the reputation of being a knowledgeable and clever student.
In Dead End K1 and Dead End K6 - Snip Snip, Kat shows that despite her tough exterior, she can be vulnerable when faced with the consequences of her actions. She can feel regret and remorse, showing a willingness to accept responsibility for any harm caused.
Despite her flaws, Kat shows acts of kindness, such as returning a book to Saki and participating in a group ritual to make amends for ruining their Ouija board game, even though she could handle it alone according to the rules. In Dead End K4 - Nevermind Forever and Dead End K7 - Girls' Night Out, Kat connects with Saki, Juli, and Kaya, feeling less interested in the ritual but gaining new friends to talk to. She realizes that the ritual may not have been as important as she thought and decides to trust in their friendship more.
Relationships[]
Saki[]
Saki is initially hostile towards Kat, making insulting remarks when their Ouija Board game is ruined. However, when Kat asks for a key to the Theater Club, Saki requests a notebook in exchange. Once Kat gives her the notebook, Saki gives her the key. When Kat returns the key, Saki relaxes and admits that Kat isn't so bad. Eventually, despite initially being suspicious of Kat talking to Juli and sitting in an empty chair, Saki reconciles with Kat after she apologises for interfering with their game. Saki then decides to join Kat and participates in her ritual as a way to entertain them.
Juli[]
Juli is in between Saki's tsundere attitude and Kaya's dandere attitude towards Kat, having a neutral opinion of her. They have a long conversation about their interests in the occult club and rituals with Saki growing suspicious of Kat's sudden friendship with Juli. However, they reconcile when Kat apologizes for interrupting their game and introduces herself to them.
Kaya[]
Kaya is the quietest and least angry of the trio, often focusing on fixing her ribbon. Because of her silent personality, she doesn't interact much with Kat. However, Kat understands Kaya's concentration and doesn't feel the need to disturb her.
In K7, when Saki, Juli, and Kaya noticed Kat feeling down, Kaya speculated that maybe singing would lift her spirits and suggested they go to karaoke. This suggestion actually ended up cheering Kat up, showing that Kaya's quiet nature doesn't stop her from being caring and supportive towards her friends.
Annie[]
In the flashback, Annie, Kat's classmate, is worried of Kat's fascination with rituals. Annie tries to convince Kat to stop messing with them, terrified at the thought of summoning a ghost or devil and condemns Kat for potentially damning her soul. When Kat casually suggests that's what awaits her after death, Annie becomes angry and refers to Kat as a "stubborn idiot." Despite this, Kat prefers herself as an "ambitious idiot" and asks Annie where a golden envelope is located. Annie reluctantly reveals that it is in a drawer in the Occult Club, which only members can access - explaining why Kat joined in the first place.
Appearance[]
Kat is the most fashion-savvy member of the Occult Club. She typically wears a traditional purplish-black school uniform consisting of a shirt, skirt, black pumps, and a red bow tie. However, unlike her friends, she accessorizes with a pair of brownish-purple stockings.
In addition to her ponytail, she wears two hair clips on the left side of her head, partially revealing her forehead. She has fair skin, light purple eyes, small freckles, and short black hair that reaches her shoulders.
Inventory[]
Image | Name | How To Use | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Ritual Notes (Drawing) | The note outlines how the ritual should be completed, with Kat instructed to move the desks to the sides in three classrooms before drawing a chalk "path" in the middle of each room. | "This is how it looks in my head." | |
Lighter | This can be used when lighting all 12 candles, but the old one can be found in a supply room. However, it cannot be used later on when Kat is in the hellish realm as her lighter is running out. This occurs when she tries to use it in a completely dark place, with only a trail of blood guiding her at the end of the game. | "My personal lighter. I don't smoke but I enjoy watching things burn." | |
Chalk | Chalk can be used to draw a path through three classrooms to connect Kat's current location to her destination, as specified in the golden envelope. There are about 6 chalks in total, located in the three classrooms including the Occult club room.
|
"A piece of chalk. I can draw various things with it." | |
Ritual Notes | The note listed the items needed for a ritual and some preparations, ending with a series of question marks suggesting uncertainty about the outcome. | "I put everything I need to remember here." | |
Scissors | Scissors are located in Class 3B, essential for opening sealed cardboard boxes in the Occult Club Room to obtain a rune. Kat can also use them to cut hair, whether it's her own or her friends' - Saki, Juli, or Kaya, in case she's apprehensive about cutting her own hair.
|
"A regular pair of scissors. Not pointy enough to stab people with." | |
A tuft of hair | After cutting hair, either Kat's or that of her friends, Saki, Juli, or Kaya, is instructed to burn it on one of the lit candles after waiting for 5 minutes. | "A bit of hair I cut from myself. Looking at it makes me sad." | |
Theater Club Key | To access the Theater club room, Kat needs to hand over the notebook to Saki, who has the key. The notebook is located in Class 3C and must be given to Saki in exchange for the key. This will allow Kat to enter the club room.
|
"The key to open the theater club room." | |
Dusty Hairpin | Kat's dusty hairpin is a valuable tool found in Class 3A, capable of unlocking locked doors! If Kat manage to unlock a door with it, the player will earn a "Click" achievement. However, it can break after three failed attempts to unlock a 'normal-looking door'. | "My trusty hairpin! I have a feeling this could come in handy." | |
Protective Rune | Found in the Occult Club room is a little box with three runes inside: Kenaz, Berkano, and Ingwas. The golden envelope warns not to let the runes out of possession as they provide protection. However, it doesn't specify which runes to choose, so Kat can select any of the runes available to her. | "A rune with some ancient symbol engraved." | |
Curtains | Kat can access the Theatre club room to retrieve curtains for Class 2B. She can then hang the curtains on the windows to block out as much light as possible. | "Red blackout curtains used to block as much light as possible." | |
Candles | Kat already has 12 candles, allowing her to place 6 candles on each side of all 12 desks in Class 2B. | "A bunch of candles, I need these for the ritual." |

Trivia/Notes[]
- As Kat is taunted by a mysterious voice, she declares that she will leave once she uncovers what she is looking for. Although it is not explicitly stated what that might be, there is a popular speculation that she may be searching for her deceased father, who ended up in a hellish realm after his divorce. This theory is supported by Annie's caution to Kat about not finding "him" through rituals, as well as hints from the voice mentioning the potential devastation of Kat's mother at losing both her husband and daughter. It is suggested that Kat is struggling to come to terms with saying goodbye to her father, hinting that he was long gone before she became involved in any rituals.
- When Kat is trapped in a small box room and mentally tormented by a villainous voice, she ultimately breaks down and decides to go home. This moment reveals her true vulnerability, despite her usual snarky and sharp-witted demeanor. It is a powerful sight to see her transition from a strong and independent to a genuinely scared and helpless person.
- In the 2024 Character Popularity Poll, Kat is ranked 4th Place with 527 votes.[1]
